A Certificate of Baptism and Birth (Fødsels- og Dåbsattest) is available to persons who have been baptized in the Church of Denmark (excluding Southern Jutland). If you need a certificate that certifies birth, you must order a Certificate of Personal Data instead.
Certificates of Baptism and Birth are available from your local registrar
Certificates of Personal Data (Personattest) replace Birth and Baptism Certificates for persons not baptized by the Church of Denmark and are available to anyone whose birth was registered in Denmark. You can get the certificate in Danish or Danish/English.
Certificates of Personal Data confirm current civil information on a person's birth, name, marital status and death, including place of birth registration, names of parents, your present name, date of marriage and registering authority, last parish of residence if deceased.
Certificates of Personal Data always show most recently recorded information. If you need to document previously registered information, for example previous names, you will need an "Access to register".
If you have a MitID, you must order the Certificate of Personal Data online. The certificate can be delivered online or by post (paper certificate with physical stamp and signature). It can also be collected from your local registrar in Denmark. If you do not have a MitID, the certificate can be ordered from the church office.
An "Access to Register" (Registerindsigt) is a complete printout of the information registered in the Civil Registration Office. The document, Access to Register is not a certificate, but an overview of the Personal Data (current and previous), including birth, name, children, marriage and death. The Access to Register is not signed or stamped by any authority.
You are entitled to a Marriage Certificate issued by the Danish National Church if you are married in the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark. If you were married at the town hall (civil marriage), you must contact the Citizen Service Center in your municipality to get a Marriage Certificate. If your present marital status is divorced, you cannot request a Marriage Certificate. Marriage Certificates may also be issued by other religious communities in Denmark, but are not valid for authentication with an Apostille stamp if issued before 2023.
If you are staying or have previously stayed in Denmark, you can request an international certificate of criminal record. Certificates can be ordered by email or online. You can order a private criminal record in Danish, English, German, French and Spanish. However, if your criminal record is not clean, you will only receive it in Danish.
To verify the authenticity of a legalisation/an apostille issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, please enter date and number of apostille.
