Apostille Italy Criminal Record

Attest Italian Police Background Checks for use in the United States and abroad

Isarey provides specialist Apostille and attestation services in Italy to attest Italian Criminal Record Certificates for use in the United States and abroad.

  • Italian Apostilles on criminal record certificates take 4-5 working days
  • We can obtain criminal record certificates directly in Italy for clients requiring Apostille Stamps or consular legalization.

Italian Criminal Record Certificates needed for submission in non-apostille countries will need additional legalization by the embassy of the recipient country. Isarey works with all major embassies in Rome to legalize Italian Police Certificates, including the embassies of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, the Vietnamese embassy and Taipei Representative Office.

We'll arrange an insured courier to collect your original certificate or obtain a new copy for you. Then obtain all necessary apostilles, legalizations and certifications for secure delivery by courier worldwide.

We also provide certified translations into English, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages, so that your certificate is properly legalized and ready to submit in the country where you need to present it. Translations can be certified in Italy with a second Apostille Stamp, or a translation certified locally in the destination country.

Most authorities requiring criminal record certificates ask for a recent certificate (usually issued within the last three or six months). Italian certificates must have been issued within the last six months to be valid for an Apostille or legalization.

European Union

Submission within the European Union
Italian certificates of no criminal record do not require Apostilles when being submitted to other states of the European Union where the certificate is for a citizen of Italy and where the criminal record is clean. Non-Italian nationals may still require an Apostille. For further information, see:
Regulation (EU) 2016/1191External link (opens in new tab)

How to obtain a Criminal Record Certificate from Italy

There are two main types of Criminal Record Certificate issued in Italy that may be requested by overseas authorities for visa or citizenship applications.

Isarey can assist clients based outside Italy with the Collection of Italian Police Certificates - please contact us.

  • General Criminal Record Certificate (Certificato Generale del Casellario Giudiziale)

This is the main certificate to prove a clean criminal record and good conduct in Italy. It will list any penal, civil, and administrative convictions. The General Criminal Record Certificate can be obtained from any Public Prosecutor’s Office (Procura della Repubblica).

  • Certificate of Pending Charges (Certificato dei Carichi Pendenti)

This second certificate may also be required for certain applications. It will list any outstanding proceedings against the applicant. This second certificate may be required by certain authorities, in addition to the General Certificate, to show that the applicant is not subject to any pending criminal proceedings in Italy. The Certificate of Pending Charges must be obtained from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the court where the applicant was last officially resident.
