Apostille Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates in Italy for use in the United Arab Emirates and abroad
Birth, marriage and death certificates issued in Italy can be certified with a Hague Convention Apostille stamp from the Prefecture (Prefettura) for the province where the birth, death or marriage was issued.
Apostille processing times vary depending on the Prefecture, but in general Italian Apostilles for civil status certificates take 1-2 weeks
Authorities of countries that have signed the Apostille Convention will recognise Apostilles issued by Italian Prefectures directly as confirmation of authenticity. Otherwise, following certification by the Prefecture, the certificate must be attested by the destination country's embassy in Rome.
See list of Apostille Convention Countries
We can obtain new copies of Italian Birth, death and marriage certificates direct from civil registry offices (ufficio anagrafe e stato civile) across Italy, so there is no need to send your copy to obtain an Apostille.
