Exceptions to Apostille Convention (Documents required for Greece)
Greece has objected to the accession of certain States to the Apostille Convention (including Peru), so that the Convention does not apply between Greece and Peru. Peruvian documents required for submission in Greece may also require additional attestation by the nearest Greek embassy.

How can I obtain an apostille for a Peruvian birth, death or marriage certificate?

Apostilles for Peru birth, death and marriage certificates are available from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores. To be eligible for apostille authentication, certificates must be certified and legalized by RENIEC (Registro Nacional de Identificación y Estado Civil).

Marriage certificates issued by the Catholic Church of Peru are valid for an Apostille when certified by the Bishop, Vicar General, Chancellor or Ecclesiastical Notary.

How can I obtain my Peruvian Criminal Record Certificate to use abroad?

Peru issues three types of background check. Check with the authority requesting your Peruvian criminal record, which certificate they require. Some authorities require all three certificates.

  • Criminal Record Certificate (Certificado de Antecedentes Penales)
  • Judicial Background Check (Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales)
  • Police Background Certificate (Certificado de antecedentes policiales)

Criminal Record Certificates certify whether a person has a record of criminal convictions in Peru. Certificates are issued by Registro Nacional de Condenas and can be obtained online, in person or though an authorized representative in Peru, or through a Consulates of Peru abroad Peruvian consulateExternal link (opens in new tab) (in Spanish)

Judicial Background Check confirms whether the applicant has served a custodial or community service sentence in Peru. Certificates are available from Instituto Nacional Penitenciario and are valid for 90 days.

Police Background Certificate confirms the existence or absence of a police record in Peru. Certificates are available online or in person from División de Identificación Criminalística (PNP). The certificate must be issued for travel or use abroad ("para viaje o uso en el extranjero").
