Procedure to Apostille Spanish Education Certificates

University Degrees: Spanish Universities issue two types of diploma, an official diploma (título oficial and a university diploma (título propio).

Official diplomas must be certified by the Ministry of Universities before being submitted to the Ministry of Justice for an Apostille Stamp or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for legalization. These include:

  • University degrees with national validity, issued by the Rectors of the Universities
  • Higher and postgraduate education qualifications, issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports
  • Official academic certifications of studies leading to obtaining the above qualifications (excluding Registration certifications).
  • Certificates issued by the Ministry of Education accrediting compliance with the qualification conditions required by Directives of the Council of the European Communities.

An original copy of the diploma is required (Spanish or bilingual) with a handwritten or digital signature (CSV -Secure Verification Code).

Non-official Diplomas are certified by a Spanish notary and apostilled through the regional College of Notaries (colegio notarial). Diplomas requiring consular attestation will also be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Non-University Certificates

Academic certificates and qualifications issued by non-university education institutions in Spain can be authenticated with an Apostille or legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after they have been certified by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training:

  • All official degrees and diplomas with academic validity issued by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (e.g. School Graduate Certificates, Assistant Technician Degrees, etc...)
  • Official academic certificates of studies leading to the award of the degrees by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, issued by educational centres located in Ceuta, Melilla, CIDEAD and centres abroad, or issued by educational centres before the date of transfer of educational competences to the Autonomous Community.

Official academic certificates issued by educational centres in Autonomous Communities must be certified by the Minister of Education of the respective Autonomous Community.

Embassy Attestation

Spanish university degrees required for non-apostille countries are legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following certification by the Ministry of Education or Ministry of Justice, and then attested by the embassy of the recipient country in Madrid.

Isarey works with all major Madrid embassies to attest Spanish university degree and degree certificates, including the Embassy of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Vietnam and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain.
